Popi Koutentaki, who was born in Crete, Greece, showed a strong passion for art at a very young age. She pursued her love for art by studying Art and Design at Akron University in the USA and also worked alongside portrait artist Bill Kufahl in Ohio. After returning to Crete, she continued her studies on her own, exploring and reading about various artists, techniques, and all that fulfilled her desire to learn more about the arts.
In Heraklion, she furthered her studies at the atelier of the renowned Greek artist George Thomas Georgiades.
Additionally, she attended specialized courses on Embossing and Repousse with Kostis Dolapsakis Krasanakis. Due to her interest in textile art, she learned the art of weaving on ancient Cretan looms from older women in the village of Anogia. Popi also studied Graphics and Design at Warwickshire College, Art Therapy with Jane Scheuer, Silk Screen on fabric and paper at Royal Leamington Spa, and Eco Printing and Paper-making at Malvern College of Arts.
Popi has exhibited her artwork in Greece, USA, France, Italy, and Cyprus. Her works are found in numerous private collections worldwide, including the El Greco museum in Crete. She has taught art to both children and adults for 16 years and has collaborated with many artists and Municipalities through workshops to inspire people of all ages to appreciate and enjoy the arts.
Furthermore, Popi has illustrated 14 children's books and is presently working on her own. She has participated in many children's art activities and has painted Murals for Municipalities of Kazantzakis and private homes. Currently, she resides and works in the UK.
"I believe art heals.
This has been my experience throughout my whole life and it continues to heal me to this day.
Upon awakening in the morning, my heart is filled with joy as I walk into the other room to take a look at my new creation that I worked on the day before, even if it’s not perfect or finished . It’s my new creation.
This fills my heart with a willingness to share with others the wonder and feeling of fulfilment that comes from Art"
